IFCCA Research Day 2026: Bringing the Patient Perspective to Research

On 20 November 2026 in Brussels, IFCCA Research Day will bring together patients, researchers, clinicians and other stakeholders to exchange knowledge and experiences, discuss European research projects and explore what they mean for people living with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).

The day will focus on patient involvement in research, recent findings relevant to the IBD community and new approaches to treatment and care. Through presentations and discussion, participants will explore how patient perspectives can help shape research priorities and inform the development of future treatments.

Four research projects will be featured:

  • FIBROTARGET, with Prof. Bram Verstockt, KU Leuven, Belgium, exploring imaging in IBD, including patients’ acceptance of imaging procedures and the barriers they may face.

  • miGut-Health, with Prof. Guendalina Graffigna, Catholic University of Milan, Italy, sharing European survey findings on stress, eating habits and IBD.

  • BIOKID-PGx, with Prof. López Fernández, Hospital Gregorio Marañón, Spain, introducing the project and providing an opportunity for questions and discussion.

  • GENEGUT, with Dr. Tien Seow Yeo, Bangor University, UK, presenting survey findings on ethical considerations surrounding RNA therapy and introducing health technology assessment, which examines the value and impact of health technologies.

Alongside the project presentations, the event will provide space for dialogue about the role of patient organisations in European research and the questions that matter most to people living with IBD. Participants will have opportunities to exchange with researchers, share their experiences and contribute the patient perspective to discussions on current and future research.

We look forward to a day of learning, dialogue and collaboration.
