📢 New DIVA Report | Access to IBD Care: a Global Equity Challenge
Access to care for people living with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) — including Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative Colitis — remains deeply unequal across the world.
Our latest DIVA report draws on the Voces con EII studies in Mexico and Costa Rica, showing how barriers persist across health systems: from delayed diagnosis and limited access to specialists, to administrative processes that can override clinical decisions.
Despite different contexts, the pattern is consistent: structural and administrative barriers continue to shape whether patients receive timely and appropriate care.
Patients report:
• Diagnostic delays and frequent misdiagnosis
• Geographic and system-level barriers to specialist access
• Treatment decisions constrained by administrative approval processes
• Interruptions in monitoring and continuity of care
The impact is significant — including preventable complications, hospitalisations, and reduced quality of life.
Developed through IFCCA’s DIVA – Data Insights for Added therapeutic VAlue, this report highlights the value of patient-generated evidence in revealing system-level gaps that are often missing from traditional datasets.
