2nd DIVA report: IBD and Fatigue - Breaking the Silence on Fatigue

We are proud to share the second DIVA report, focusing on one of the most under-recognised challenges in inflammatory bowel disease: fatigue. While abdominal pain, diarrhea and other gastrointestinal symptoms often receive the most attention, research shows that up to half of all people with IBD experience significant fatigue, including many who are in remission.

This type of fatigue goes far beyond normal tiredness. It affects concentration, daily functioning, emotional well-being and quality of life. Evidence links it to disease activity, sleep problems, depression and inflammation, yet the lack of clear biomarkers and the use of multiple measurement tools make it difficult to assess and manage consistently.

Through DIVA – Data Insights for Added therapeutic VAlue, we are working to highlight this underestimated burden and to ensure that fatigue becomes a recognised and addressed aspect of IBD care.
