IFCCA at United Gastroenterology (UEG) Week 2025
From 4–7 October 2025, UEG Week brought together the digestive health community in Berlin to discuss the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of care, research, and policy. Throughout the congress, IFCCA actively contributed to these discussions, advocating for meaningful patient involvement and strengthening collaboration with key stakeholders across Europe.
A particular highlight of IFCCA's participation was the dedicated Youth Group session, "Living with IBD: Voices of Young Adults (18–30)," which provided a platform for young people living with IBD to share their experiences, present survey findings, and discuss the priorities that matter most to them. The session demonstrated the growing role of young patient advocates in shaping the future of IBD care and advocacy. A full report on the Youth Group conference is available here.
A key highlight was IFCCA's contribution to the 3rd Digestive Health Roundtable, which brought together patient leaders, clinicians, researchers, and policymakers to discuss priorities for improving digestive health across Europe. The discussions focused on digestive cancer care, patient-reported outcomes (PROs), and meaningful patient involvement in clinical trials, reinforcing the importance of incorporating patient experiences into research, policy, and healthcare decision-making.
IFCCA Chairperson Salvo Leone contributed to the discussions by sharing practical examples of meaningful patient engagement throughout the healthcare and research journey. The Roundtable ultimately contributed to the development of the Digestive Health Manifesto 2025, which calls for stronger patient involvement in shaping digestive health policy, research, and care.
During UEG Week, IFCCA also participated in the 4th ECCO Council of National Representatives Meeting, joining representatives from across Europe to discuss strategies for improving care and outcomes for people living with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). The meeting highlighted the ongoing collaboration between IFCCA and ECCO in advancing education, guidelines, and multidisciplinary care.
UEG Week 2025 provided valuable opportunities to exchange ideas, strengthen collaborations, and continue advancing patient-centred digestive health initiatives across Europe.
