IFCCA Youth Group Highlights the Voices of Young Adults at UEG Week 2025
The IFCCA Youth Group took centre stage at UEG Week 2025 in Berlin with a dedicated session, "Living with IBD: Voices of Young Adults (18–30)”, showcasing the experiences, challenges, and priorities of young people living with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).
During the session, Youth Group members presented the results of a collaborative survey conducted with the Gastroenterology-Hepatology Department of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Hippokration Hospital). The survey explored the real-life impact of IBD on young adults, including its effects on mental health, education, employment, social life, and overall wellbeing.
The findings highlighted that, alongside physical symptoms, many young people experience fatigue, sleep disturbances, and significant mental health challenges. The results underscored the need for greater access to tailored support services and a more holistic approach to care.
Beyond presenting data, the session provided an opportunity for young patient advocates to share personal experiences and perspectives, bringing a human dimension to the challenges faced by young adults living with IBD.
The event marked an important milestone for the IFCCA Youth Group, reflecting its continued growth as a network of empowered young advocates committed to shaping the future of IBD care and patient representation across Europe.
